Medical Research

Each year the Foundation provides money for research in the renal field. Our Medical Advisory Board screens Research Grant Applicantions and awards money to local researchers who are doing vital work in accordance with the mission and vision of the Foundation. Through seed-money grants, the Foundation supports the search for continued advances in the cause, treatment, cure and prevention of kidney disease.

Grants are awarded for one (1) year and are based on research proposals of exceptional merit.  It is the intention of the Kidney Foundation of Greater Cincinnati that these grants be awarded for clinical and basic research related to HYPERTENSION, NEPHROLOGY, and UROLOGY by MD or PhD investigators within five (5) years of completion of their research training. The principal investigator (PI) is expected to have a faculty appointment or equivalent (fellows and post-doctoral fellows are eligible for funding).

Applications will be judged on the basis of a) the significance and scientific merit of the proposed studies, and b) the likelihood that funding will lead to a larger continuing research program.  Preference will be given to pilot or feasibility studies that can be achieved during the year of funding.   Support for a critical need in an on-going program may also be considered, but no grants will be awarded simply to strengthen such programs. The support can be used for supplies, minor equipment purchase or technical support, but it is the policy of the Foundation not to pay indirect costs or P.I. salary.

Grant Applications are available now. Applications submissions are due April 1, 2008. The research award will be decided by Tuesday, July 1, 2008 and presented at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 10, 2008.
